MPs debate Ford eco-town

MP Nick Herbert confronted the government about the Ford eco-town proposals.

Mr Herbert secured an adjournment debate in the Commons to take on housing minister Margaret Beckett about the controversial procedure.

It is at least the second parliamentary occasion devoted to the intention to build 5,000 homes around the former airfield.

Matthew Jones, the assistant to Arundel and South Downs MP Mr Herbert, who is the Conservatives' secretary for the environment, food and rural affairs, said: "There are still a lot of unanswered questions about the Ford eco-town.

"A lot of issues need to be raised because there are so many things wrong with the eco-town process.

"This debate will be a good chance to get the government minister to answer questions in public, face to face, to get away from the press releases coming out of the government."
