MPs FEARS OVER HOSPITAL JOB CUTS

MP Nigel Waterson has expressed his "deep concern" at the announcement today by East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust that it is to cut 250 jobs and that "large scale redundancies" are not ruled out.

Mr Waterson said: "I am deeply concerned by this announcement so early in the new financial year.

"At the recent HOSC meeting I expressed my fears about our DGH being the victim of 'death by a thousand cuts'.

"I hope this announcement is not the start of that process."

"I remain convinced that the underlying problem at the Trust is underfunding, with inadequate provision in the calculation of funding levels given the high proportion of elderly people in our area."
