Multiple charges for St Leonards man after lorry crash

A man was charged with multiple offences after crashing a lorry into a parked car in St Leonards last night (Thursday, January 14).

A 24-year-old male passenger was hospitalised after Jamie Clifton, of Albany Road, St Leonards, drove a scaffolding lorry into a parked car on The Green at 11.45pm.

Clifton was charged with five offences including drink-driving and taking the lorry without consent.

The 30-year-old scaffolder has been charged with driving with 116mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system, driving with no licence, driving with no insurance, and taking a vehicle without consent and being involved in a road traffic collision in which injury was caused.

The road was temporarily closed and fully reopened by 2.47am this morning (Friday, January 15).

Clifton is due to appear before Hastings Magistrates’ Court on February 3.
