Mum in a million

A girl not only voted her mother one in a million but thinks if care was money, her mum would be owed a million.

Ten-year-old Toni Bailey (pictured centre with her mum and sister) sent a letter explaining why her mum is so special and won her mother the Buxton Advertiser "Mum in a Million" competition.

Toni's letter read: "If she got paid for all the work she does, there would be an awful lot of wages due."

Top mum Joyce Bailey, of Jubilee Street, New Mills, looks after her own mother who has cancer and also Toni's younger sister Laura, who has Down's Syndrome.

Mrs Bailey spent Mother's Day holding a party for Laura, who was seven on Sunday.

Mrs Bailey, who knew nothing about the entry until she was told she had won, said it brought a tear to her eye when she read the letter.

She said: "I was gob-smacked, I was really overwhelmed".
