Mum's head shave for headstone

A mum, struggling to pay for her son's headstone, is preparing to have her head shaved to raise funds.

Sue Bryant, 49, is aiming to raise 500 to pay for a headstone for her son Alex, who died when he was struck by a train near Robertsbridge station in November 2008.

Sue, of Coronation Gardens, Salehurst, will be going under the clippers at Robertsbridge Youth Club at 8.30pm on Monday night, in front of family and friends.

Sue said: "If I want people to give up their hard-earned money, I feel I have got to do something.

"I'm not capable of doing a sponsored walk or bike ride as I have health problems, but I am capable of sitting on a chair and having my head shaved."

She added: "I think the initial reaction from my friends and family was shock and they said 'no, you can't do it' and 'we'll pay you to keep your hair'.

"But they know me, and once I set my mind to it, I will do it."

Although the thought of a head shave may be daunting to many, Sue says she will take it all in her stride.

She joked: "I can wear a woolly hat and I'm not going to get sunburnt at this time of year!"

Sue added: "I'm hoping to raise 500.

"If for whatever reason I should excel on that amount, I will donate any excess to the air ambulance.

"So many people are very, very grateful to them."

So far Sue has raised more than 200.

She said: "Everybody, from when it happened right up until now, has been so kind.

"Any donations will be gratefully received."

Anyone who would like to donate to Sue's sponsored head shave can call her on 07837129190.
