MURDER REACTION: Durrington residents speak of stabbing shock

"SHOCKING" and "horrific" are just two of the words used by people living in the Durrington road where a man was stabbed to death on Friday (January 30).

Residents in Shelby Road have been left stunned after a 26-year-old man died from multiple stab wounds. Police had been called to the road at 10.42pm following reports of a fight in the street.

A murder inquiry has been launched and a 19-year-old Durrington man was arrested at the scene and remains in police custody.

Police have not named the victim but say he is a local man of no fixed address.

With their street now a murder scene, residents in Shelby Road are in shock.

One man who can see the bloodstained driveway where the stabbing happened from his home said: "It is horrific. Something like this happening literally on your doorstep - it's not good."

Another man, who returned from a night out to find the road lined with police vans and forensic teams, said: "I didn't know what to think, but when I found out I was pretty shocked. It's not the sort of thing you expect to see."

A disabled man who has lived in the road for nearly 30 years said he only found out about the murder when he saw it on the news.

He said: "Then I opened the curtains and saw the police vans. It is shocking. It's a shame because this street is getting a bad name."
