MURDER VICTIM'S FAMILY THANKS WITNESSES

The family of murder victim Gary Rae have issued a statement now that the trial at Hove has come to an end.

The family said: 'On the 29th of May of last year Gary was set upon and brutally murdered / killed by a gang of teenage thugs. This trial has been a very difficult and emotional time for our family to sit through, how Gary's life was taken from us in a calculated vicious unprovoked and cowardly attack."

"We wish to thank Sussex Police and CPS for the tremendous support that they have given to us in the leading months and during the trial.

"Our heart and thanks go out to the prosecution witnesses who are very young and vulnerable. They have all gone through a traumatic experience and have shown great courage in coming forward."

"We would like to put this trial behind us and remember Gary as he was, a good and loving father , son and brother"

After 7 days the jury came to the following verdicts:

William Devall, 19 years from Meadow Road, Hailsham - guilty of murder, Luke Jones, 18 years also from Meadow Road, Hailsham - guilty of murder and Ahmet Gordon, 16 years from Swan Road, Hailsham - guilty of murder.

Jason Jackson, 18 years from Albert Road, Polegate - guilty of manslaughter.

Shane Challice, 19 years from Eastbourne was found NOT guilty, along with another 17 year old youth from Hailsham.
