Museum is ready for lecture season

Bexhill Museum is set to begin its winter lecture series upholding a tradition that goes back to 1914.

David Hatherell, from the museum, explained: “The winter-spring lecture season goes right back to the museum’s inception in 1914.

“Each season a varied fare of subjects is put together in the hope of providing something for everybody.”

The venue for the lectures is St Augustine’s Church Hall, Cooden Drive; a modern hall with parking facilities.

This season’s line up of Wednesday afternoon talks starts with Oscar Browning on October 7, given by Neil Bates. This is followed by In Conversation With Annie by Louise Kenward on October 21; Women Police in World War One, by Derek Oakensen on November 4; Bexhill Connections with the Battle of Waterloo by Julian Porter on November 18; An Introduction to Bodiam Castle by David Langworthy on December 2; Christmas Lantern Slide Show by John and Thelma Burgess on December 16.

They continue in 2016 with The Story of ‘Ixion’ by Dave Masters on February 3; East Sussex Folk- A Personal Perspective by Brian Freeland on February 17; ‘A Man may have Constant Employ’-Sussex Industrial History by Dr Geoffrey Mead on March 2; The British Navy 1793-1815 by Alaric Bond on March 16; Shopping-a light hearted look at the small shop through the ages given by Dr Janet Pennington on April 6.

These Wednesday lectures commence at 2.30 pm and usually last until 4 pm.

The entry charge is £4 [£3 for Bexhill Museum members] and includes tea/coffee and biscuits. A leaflet with full details is available from the Museum.
