Music summer school

Budding musicians have the chance to develop their skills, meet new friends and have fun at a summer school dedicated to all things tuneful.

Applications are now being accepted for the East Sussex Music Service Summer School, to take place between July 6 and August 4.

The county council's music service runs the summer school every year to provide intensive courses giving talented youngsters the chance to get together and make music.

Courses on offer include everything from Shout! a five day music theatre course for passionate singers, to one-day tuition on flute, recorder, cello and violin, with everything in between, including orchestras, bands, guitar, percussion and keyboard groups.

Most of the courses end with a performance where students can show what they have learnt.

Matt Dunkley, Director of Children's Services at East Sussex County Council, said: "There is a huge amount of musical talent in East Sussex and the summer school gives young people the chance to meet similar minded young people, talk about music, develop their skills and talents and, of course, make some great music. These young people work hard to put on some truly superb performances."

Most courses are open to all but some are specialist and need a music teacher to put forward pupils. Courses take place at venues across the county including Eastbourne, Lewes, Uckfield, Heathfield, St Leonards and Hastings.
