Musical performance in Pevensey church

THE ANCIENT church of St Nicolas, parish church of Pevensey, has stood for almost 800 years.

The builders of the 13th century must have known what they were doing, as the church has excellent acoustics, making it a much sought-after venue for choirs and musicians. For the fourth year in succession the church will be hosting a performance by professional musicians “Florin”, a trio comprising Charles Mutter on violin, Alistair Scahill on viola and Catherine Rimer on ‘cello, plus Neil McLaren on flute. These artistes are well-known nationally and internationally in public performances and on radio, TV and recordings, playing with various classical orchestras and groups.

This year’s programme, on Sunday 3rd July, is in two parts. At 5.00pm Neil will give a recital on solo flute of works by Vivaldi, CPE Bach and Debussy with explanations by the player. From 6.00 to 7.00pm you are invited to bring a picnic to enjoy in the tranquil village churchyard. Then beginning at 7.00pm “Florin”, with Neil, will perform two Serenades by Beethoven and one by Dohnanyi to complete this evening of exquisite music

Entrance will cost £15.00 for the whole programme or £12.50 for the evening only; tea or coffee and a glass of wine will be included. The proceeds will go towards the continuing upkeep of the church in this parish.
