Over the past three years the purpose-built community centre has become a thriving community asset and is home to Battle Methodist Church. Spokesman for the centre, Andrew Knowles-Bake says it has also established itself as a centre of excellence for the performing arts. “This continues with two special events in March,” he said.

“On Saturday March, 18 Opera South East present ‘An Evening with Gershwin’ with Kenneth Roberts at the piano.

“The concert will take the form of a lecture recital including extracts from Rhapsody in Blue, Piano Concerto and An American in Paris. Tickets cost £10 and include interval refreshments. Tickets available from Cook in Mount Street, Battle, Spoilt Rotten on the Abbey Green and the Emmanuel Centre. The concert begins at 7.30pm.

“On Saturday, March 25 there’s an opportunity to participate in a performance and workshop of the Faure Requiem.

“An afternoon workshop with Roger Wilcock will be followed by a public performance at 7pm. This is an opportunity for singers with some experience of choral singing and an ability to read music. The workshop will enable participants to dig deeper into this unique and much loved work and to learn more about its composer, his life, influences and intentions for this composition.”

The participation fee is £10 and performance tickets £5.
