Mo Khan, of the Bexhill Islamic Association, founded in 2003, said: "Eid-ul-Fitr is one of the two great Islamic festivals, the other being Eid-ul-Adha.

"Muslims believe that their creator, Allah, ordered believers to celebrate it and it is a day of thanksgiving to Allah.

"It comes at the end of a month of fasting and has special significance for Muslim society."

Mr Khan said neighbours, members of other faiths, school groups and others were all welcome to share their prayers and festivities.

In May, the BIA got consent to create a mosque and Islamic Centre at Norfolk Lodge, Clifford Road, Bexhill. It is now busy raising funds to proceed.
