Mystery road - can you help?

Mrs Brenda Legg, of Crabtree Lane, Lancing, is a member of a group called "Past Finders", researching local history of Sompting and Lancing.

There is a certain mystery that has baffled many since 1982, yet no-one has been able to solve it. Brenda's grandfather, Charles Edward Hoad, was born at 4 Baker Street, Worthing, on April 5, 1870.

Although these details are found on the birth certificate, there is no record of a Baker Street in Worthing and the nearby areas. Brenda said: "I would dearly love to know exactly where he was born so that I have tangible evidence of him."

Charles had a brother, William, and a sister, Laura, both born at different addresses, and both were baptised at Broadwater. The family moved later to Brigden Street, Brighton, and then to Yatley, Hampshire.
