Mystery Sighting In Cooden

A South Cliff resident has seen what she reckons is a large wild cat running through her garden.

Now Joyce Prichard is wondering if anyone else has spotted this mysterious creature.

"About a month ago was the first time I saw it," said Joyce this week.

"I was sitting here and a big black thing went past.

"I know enough about animals to know it was not a dog, and it was much too big to be a fox.

"Then I saw it again on Thursday December 27 - it was very fast. From my impression both times it was a big black cat, it had got a long tail and a long body. It was definitely not a dog and was bigger than an alsatian. I would say it was like a puma, or a panther, whatever is black of that type of animal."

Joyce said she saw the "strange" creature run through her cliff-top garden from east to west alongside the wire fence which divides her land where it drops down to the promenade.

She said: "I was very concerned when I let the dogs out into the garden later on. I did worry it might be around.

"It ended with myself not having had a 100 percent look at it, but it is something that catches your eye and then is gone. I have been sitting with the curtains open hoping to see it again.

"It's a little bit worrying really."

After the second sighting she contacted Sussex Police, and said: "The police said they are aware of further reports inland but nothing as far as the coast. They wanted to know if there were any more sightings from other people."

Have you seen something strange? If so please contact the Observer and we will pass your messages on to Joyce.
