National carers week

With over six million carers in the UK, National Carers Week (11th '“ 17th June) aims to highlight the impact being a carer can have on everyday life.

To coincide with the week, an event is being held in Priory Meadow Shopping Centre on Thursday 14th June, organised by the Association of Carers, Hastings and Rother Crossroads, Care for the Carers, Hastings and Rother PCT and East Sussex County Council Adult Social Care.

The event will be an opportunity for carers to talk informally to the various organisations, and discuss any problems they may be having or seek advice and information.

Angela Broomfield, Public Health Co-ordinator for Older People, said: "One in ten adults in the UK is a carer, and it's a role that can have a huge impact on carers' lives and be incredibly tough.

"We hope the event on 14th June will have a very relaxed feel, and we'd welcome any carers who want to come along and talk to us. Being a carer can be a hugely rewarding experience and we're also hoping to celebrate this on the day, and maybe help carers realise that they are not alone in the role they've undertaken."
