National recognition for the Catholic college

AT the end of their academic year, the pupils and staff of St Richard's Catholic College can bask in the glory of yet more praise heaped upon them.

The school has gained national recognition for being one of the top 10 per cent of schools in the country showing “outstanding” student progress at GCSE.

St Richard’s qualified by adding value at GCSE by scoring 10 points or more on the SSAT (representative body for schools) scale for achieving five or more GCSE’s at grade A*-C including English and Maths.

Every school is ranked according to how much they add to the scores students were expected to achieve.

Sue Williamson, chief executive of SSAT, said: “St Richard’s Catholic College should be congratulated for their stunning performance in adding value to their students’ achievements.

“St Richards’s Catholic College is one of the best schools in the country at outperforming expectations for their pupils and improving their future prospects.

“There is plenty that other schools could learn...”

She added that the results are testament to the “commitment and hard work” of students and staff and “a vindication of their belief in high expectations, good teaching and ambition for every young person.”
