Nativity returns

When it was first produced in 2003 it was hailed as the best amateur theatrical production in Mid Sussex in that year. It has subsequently played to capacity houses whenever it has been put on and several of the actors are still members of today’s cast.

The show portrays the birth of Christ as perceived by our mediaeval forebears.

This version is not suitable for children younger than top primary school age.

Joseph is outraged by what he sees as Mary’s betrayal, Jesus is born as the audience looks on, the shepherds introduce rustic humour and involve the audience in some singing, Herod is an obvious blueprint for many a modern tyrant and orders the slaughter of all children under the age of two. Yet, overall, the play gives a message of hope that good can triumph over evil.
