The Caterpillar group had been busy playing in the garden at The Co-operative Childcare nursery, in St Richard’s Hospital, Spitalfield Lane, Chichester, when the staff had the idea to expand the creativity they were showing in their games.

Nursery manager Sharon Bowell said: “They developed an interest in collecting leaves and twigs, using them to ‘post’ to each other through the holes in their garden den.

“This activity was extended with some creative play using the collected leaves and twigs to make a collage.

“Their finished combined creation is now proudly on display for parents and visitors to see.”

The nursery is split into age groups from three months to two years old, two to three, and three to five. Each group has access to the outdoor play area from their rooms.
