Neil Adams Coaches Bexhill AA Judo Club

World judo champion Neil Adams will bring to Bexhill the expert knowledge and technique that helped him become a double Olympic medallist.

Neil is probably Britain's best known judoka whose achievements include a gold medal at the 1981 World Championships in Maastricht, the Netherlands, as well as silver medals in the 1980 and 1984 Olympics and the 1983 Judo World championships.

He will be leading training sessions at Bexhill Amateur Athletic Judo Club on January 25-26.

The coaching event will start with a session for seniors at 7.30pm on Friday evening, then Neil will come in on Saturday for a session with juniors at 10.00am, followed by a further senior class from 2.30pm.

Jason Meek of Bexhill AA said: "Neil Adams is probably our most successful competitive judoka, or at least one of them. Recently I have been inviting guest coaches to the club - to give everyone a break from me - and Neil Adams is the ultimate as far as judo is concerned. He is about the best you can get your hands on - he is very good. I have done training sessions with him before and I would say he is just several classes higher than anything we are likely to come across."

The sessions are open to judo students from the area, both from Bexhill AA and others interested in taking part, with the idea of improving links to other clubs and different martial arts.

Jason added: "He is going to be able to teach us a lot in quite a short time - that is what it is about really. It is good to do this to raise the profile of the club - it is quite a coup for us to be able to get him. I was really pleased.

"Neil Adams is also going to present us with our club mark award, which is quite a big thing - it has taken us nearly a year to find someone to present it to us."

The Bexhill AA judo club has achieved its bronze club mark, which is the Government's accreditation scheme requiring a certain standard of organisation and qualification. The presentation will take place at the club in Little Common Road at 12.15.
