St John The Baptist Church Netherfield: Yes it is here again. The annual Spring Fair will be held in the church on Saturday morning, 1 April from 10-12. Lots of crafts including jewelry, a tombola and raffle, a cake stall, bric-a-brac, and many activities for the children. In addition this year will be an Easter Trail and anyone can wear an Easter bonnet or April Fool hat to win a prize. There will also be refreshments to keep you going. In other words, something for everyone. Please come and support our lovely church. Gillian Slack

Darvel Down & Area Residents Association: The Annual General Meeting took place as advertised on 24 March, but unfortunately the turnout from residents was a little underwhelming. Only three people were there to hear about their village. It was a lively debate with discussions over procedural rules as well as the outlook for the future. What was clearly evident was the desire among the committee to re-engage with the community and one of the real positives to emerge from this re-connection was the wish to re-instate the annual village fete,

The logistics of putting on this extravaganza have yet to be decided but what did emerge was the necessity to recruit local volunteers to help promote and deliver the fete at some time in August. Battle Neighbourhood Plan: An additional meeting was held on Wednesday 29 of this week to finalise arrangements for the Neighbourhood Plan Exhibition to be held at the Memorial Hall on 27/28 and 29 Apri. Residents of Netherfield will be given details of transport to and from the Memorial Hall in the next edition of this column.

Reflections on a garden: It is amazing how a few clear, bright and relatively warm days can have a profound effect on the colour and vibrancy of a garden, desperately trying to shrug off its winter mantle. Primroses and primulas are vying with each other for the most colourful display and the cowslips have raised themselves above this annual competition. It is only when you closely study the primroses that you realsie there are many shades of yellow, with some almost a whiter shade of pale. Perhaps this is cross pollination over the millennia but it does brighten up a brown expanse.
