Netherfield

Netherfield Stores and Cafe: Residents of Netherfield will now know that the Cafe and Coffee Shop opened on Bank Holiday Monday. It may not be the official opening but it was there to service those that wanted to try a little something different. Janette and her team worked tirelessly on Sunday afternoon to get ready for the first patron, moving furniture, counting spoons, filling salt and pepper pots and folding napkins. It coincided with the (near) completion of the store refurbishment which now has that 'new' look.

On Monday they opened from 9am to 12am and offered a “full English” breakfast or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Normally, it will be open from 8am to 5pm and will include a special “dish of the day”. The official opening is yet to be decided but it will be in the near future.

Make sure you visit and try a “mocha” or a “latte”.

St. John the Baptist Church Spring Fair: I know that readers of this column and all the people who attended are eager to know how it all went. It was a huge success, raising £487. That was a huge success and deserves a “well done” to everyone. The weather was helpful, dry and not too cold----it was lovely and warm in the church though. The stalls were kept busy. Even those stalwarts John and Margaret, who braved the outside with their plants and garden ornaments, bird tables etc. were kept on their feet!

A huge thank you to Chris, the Manager at Jempsons, Battle Square, for such generous donations for the raffle. It certainly made a huge difference.

Congratulations and thanks to Richard Williams for organizing the display of competition paintings and pictures of St. George and his Dragon, from the Netherfield School children and also for presenting their prizes. They pictures were all stunning.

It was lovely to see all the different generations in our church, having such a lovely time. All the `team` thank everyone for coming and we look forward to the next fair in the Autumn.

Mountfield “Happy Club”: Our club for visually impaired people is part of Hastings Voluntary Association for the Blind. We would like to welcome any new members. If you want to come and see what we do visit us in the Mountfield Village Hall on Thursdays. You can just sit and chat or even try your hand at weaving with cane. Knitting is a favourite too and for those who would like to have a go at something different, you can learn to play the ukelele. We meet at 10 am and Club ends at 2.30 pm. Enjoy a two course meal, a raffle and a quiz. We have outings and occasional entertainment.
