Netherfield Mobile Library: The library is due again in Netherfield, outside the Village Stores on 23 February 2016, between 13.00 and 13.20. Now remember, you use it or lose it. Ella is there to help you choose if you have nothing in mind. Even for those who already enjoy the delights of taking out a book, sometimes it is nice to try something outside of your comfort zone. A thriller, a historical novel or a non-fictional account of a momentous moment from the past. There are books for everyone including the children. So when you see that big “beast” of a vehicle outside our village stores, pop in and have a chat with Ella who will be happy to talk and chat about the ease of joining. Then you make your choice and will be allowed to take the book home , if you are not already a member, or recommending a good read if you want to try something different.

Netherfield Village Stores: There is still a lot of work to do in the shop. A wall has to be removed and the Post Office part is being repositioned. All of this takes time, effort and a great deal of patience. However, at the end of it customers will know they have a cafe and store fit for the 21st century. A reliable source has indicated that the work could be finished by sometime in April. As work progresses and updates are available, this column will keep everyone informed of the progress being made. So, there will be lots more to come. Any comments you wish to make will well received.

Battle Neighbourhood Plan Focus Group Meetings: There are many facets to fulfilling the aspirations of everybody which are contained in a Neighbourhood Plan. At the end we must bring about a conclusion as to how we all want our community and Parish to look over the next 25 years or so.

Part of that process to reach that final goal is to provide set of suggestions and concerns to the people who live, work and visit this part of the world and ask them what they think. How will that be done? In the first instance we need to try and establish what concerns we think our community has. This we do initially by setting up a Focus Group to deal with the potential issues from one of the five areas e.g. Communities and Infrastructure.

Out of the twenty or thirty suggestions that will be put forward as possible concerns we then need to try and prioritise. The potential outcome of the discussions taking place will hopefully give a definitive number of issues from everything that has been put forward. Each of the focus groups, will, over the next few week,s bring their results to the community in a way which will allow people to have their say.

It is important that we make every part of this process inclusive, so that nobody feels they have been excluded. This column will be giving out details of the events that are taking place where you can air your views. If you have any concerns please email at address below.

Mountfield Film Club: Great news everybody, the second movie to be shown at the “Mountfield Film Club” has just been announced. Its title: The Grand Budapest Hotel”, starring Ralph Fiennes, who I have been assured is in fine form as M Gustave. It is being shown at the same place, namely The Mountfield Village Hall on Friday 26th February. Doors open at 7.30 . There is a licensed bar. Popcorn and snacks will be readily available for those who want to have that wonderful cinema experience. It is open to all and you could make it a real experience by inviting your friends and discussing the merits of what you have seen in the bar afterwards. Yes it is open before and after the film.
