MOUNTFIELD BIG SCREEN FILM CLUB LAUNCH: Thanks to one particular, anonymous, generous donor, Mountfield Village Hall Committee are proud owners of some pretty nifty audio-visual kit capable of projecting full length feature films. Until now, it has been used very successfully for the Kids' Film Club but now the grown-up, Mountfield Big Screen Film Club, version is set to launch on Friday January 29th with 'O Brother Where Art Thou'.

Released in 2000, this warm comedy movie, headlined by George Clooney, quickly achieved cult status, not least because of its soundtrack. Modern artists like Alison Kraus and Emmylou Harris are mixed in with traditional southern states, cotton fields, mountain and early bluegrass singers and musicians. The Coen brothers directed, the musicians provided the soundtrack, Clooney and his co-stars provide the warmth and comedy, the Mountfield Club provide the bar, the Village Hall Committee provide the popcorn and snacks (seriously) — and all for five quid on the door. Doors open at 7.30

Suggestions: I hope I can ask all the readers of the Battle Observer to put their thinking caps on and perhaps suggest articles which they might like to see within the Village Voice section of the paper. Stories, celebrities, even a competition could be on the agenda if you would like to see it in print. I am more than happy to talk it through if you have an idea which you think has merit and see where we go from there. A paper should be used to promote the thoughts, notions, impressions, imaginative visions and plans of its readers. Some of you may think; “I can’t talk about that”, but you can. I am here to listen and help where needed.

I would like to see a short story competition of maybe 2 to 3,000 words with the finalists appearing in print. Topics are determined by you the reader and maybe, if it proves popular, we could ask a local business to sponsor a plaque, cup or some such memento of the winner’s achievement. Please let me know what you think.

Contact: If you have any stories or articles of interest that will give our readership a reason to buy the paper please contact me on 07957588172 or via email at [email protected]
