Netherfield

Netherfield Church – The final service this month is a Holy Communion at Netherfield commencing at 10 am.

I have to thank Sean at the White Hart yet again for hosting an excellent quiz in aid of church funds. Seven teams took part and it was closely fought right up to the end. The winners, their first appearance and a local team as well, won by 6 points. Well done to them and a huge thank you to everyone who supported the evening raising almost £130.

Following this quiz we are holding one in the church on Friday May 10 starting at 7 pm. Ideally, teams of four, costing £7.50 per person to include a bangers and mash supper. Please ring 01424 774233 to book your team in. There are currently only six more teams that we can fit in so don’t leave it too late.

The Annual Parochial Church Meeting that was held on April 17 has not changed the set up of our Parochial Church Council very much. Only one person has declined to continue as a member, the rest being returned en-mass. The key posts were also elected to continue on from last year. This does indicate a vote of confidence in the way things are being managed however, it would have been good if a larger presence of electoral role members had attended in order to give a more rounded picture of feelings in the village. I do wonder sometimes why people apply to be on the electoral role yet do not take up their opportunity to have their say or express their views. If anyone is interested the results of the elections they will be displayed at the church for the next few weeks. Paul Smith, Churchwarden.

LADIES OF NETHERFIELD - Did you know that there are BRA RECYCLING facilities in Battle? We are collecting unwanted bras, washed but in any condition for good causes. The bras are sent out to Africa where women have increased status and less likely to be abused if they are wearing one. Through this brilliant scheme, we are also able to support Breast Cancer Research and local walking and cycling projects. There are collection points in Knickknicks, in Old Ladies Court and in the Post Office, both in Battle. Please join in and tell your friends. So, when you come to Battle remember your unwanted bras. Thank you. Sue Burton, Chair - 1066 Cycle Club, Sustrans Volunteer Group Coordinator - Hastings and Rother. Telephone - 01424 775592
