Netherfield

Maria Standen, Swallow Farm

Netherfield Church – Last Saturday we held our Spring Fair in the church. Spring, oh no! The near blizzard conditions as we opened the doors did not bode well, however, very soon people began to arrive and the church began to buzz. This was such a relief to all those who had worked incredibly hard to set it all up and braved the weather to bring all the varied goods on offer to the church. There was a good variety of stalls plus the old favourites of books and bric-a-brac. The produce stall was made up mainly of preserves and cakes, as sadly few plants and seedlings have yet been produced, and these rapidly sold. The watercolours on display always attract attention and discussion, as many are of the local area. Jewellery, bird feeding and Easter goodies did well. The children were sadly restricted to doing their Easter Egg hunting inside the church as the weather was too cruel to have them searching outside but this didn’t seem to worry them. They also enjoyed ringing the rabbit which resulted in two Easter Eggs being won. The tombola, raffle and refreshments were kept busy throughout the morning. Yet again, the atmosphere was just what we wanted, friendly and cheerful, with everyone making the most of a warm drink and something to eat while chatting with their friends. A huge thank you to everyone involved in the fair, it was hard work and challenging in this harsh weather but everyone rose to the occasion, as did all those who supported the event by venturing out. Thank you to those who contributed to the prizes and to the White Hart and the Village Stores for their contributions. Definitely a success as it was enjoyed by all and still raised the staggering sum of £450.00, way above our expectations given the weather. Thank you again.
