Netherfield Church - Another brilliant week for our church: especially the further boost in funds raised by another quiz hosted by the White Hart. Nine teams turned up to have their knowledge challenged or perhaps just for a meal and light hearted competition. Sean really has got the level of questions just about right as, again it was very close right up to the final round. I am too embarrassed to acknowledge any praise for being part of the winning team, however, it is the second time now so perhaps some form of handicapping needs to be applied! Thank you to Sean for hosting the quiz and to the teams for their support which raised over £100 – not bad for a fun evening.

It may appear that raising money is high on our agenda and you would be right. The financial difficulties within the diocese of Chichester that have been widely reported in the media are affecting all our local churches. Any subsidy that churches were receiving from the diocese to keep going is likely to be reduced if not removed totally. I am pleased to say that our church is one of the best in this area at meeting the annual contribution and will, within a couple of years, providing we continue to get the support needed, be totally self financing. In broad terms this is some £12,000 or more each year to operate and support the diocesan costs. We are competing with all the other very worthy charities, in particularly tough times, for people’s money and I do thank everyone for every penny they decide to give to our church through events.

This Sunday’s service is at Netherfield and is a joint Holy Communion with Mountfield. The first Sunday in November will be a non-Eucharist Family Service at Mountfield. All services are at the usual time of 10 am. Paul Smith, Churchwarden.

Remember to buy your national Lottery tickets in the shop.
