Those of you interested in cycling may like to join the 1066 Cycle Club Thursday evening rides. They set off from Battle Abbey Green at 6.30 pm throughout the spring and summer. Rides last for about an hour and there are two groups.

The ‘cruisers’ go at a gentle pace with plenty of stops and time to walk up the hills. The ‘tourists’ go at a faster pace with fewer stops and cycle up the hills. An experienced rider accompanies each group and nobody gets left behind. New riders are welcome. You can go on two rides and then are asked to join the club (£6 per annum.) Just make sure your bike is in good working order before you set off! For more details, please contact Sue 01424 775592. The programme of rides and details of social activities can be viewed at www.1066cycleclub.org.uk

Netherfield Church – Our next social event is a Coffee Morning, hosted by Chris Harding at 2 Netherfield Way, Netherfield. This is on Saturday May 5 from 10 am. until noon. There will be a bring and buy stall, plants, books, a raffle and coffee. Please do come along, have a chat and enjoy the company.

Please don’t forget the next Quiz Night at the White Hart arranged for the May 24. Start at 7.30 pm. with teams of 4 -6 at £2.50 per person, all in aid of your church so make a note now and come and join us.

Our service last Sunday was taken by the Rev. Geoff France who stated it was a challenging service because it included three aspects, the Communion, Christian Aid and a blessing for two of our parishioners who were celebrating their golden wedding anniversary. He coped very well by linking all to needing the church to exist and Christian Aid will benefit from the collection taken. Ted and Rosie Parkinson laid on a celebration after the service, champagne and nibbles so we could all celebrate their achievement of 50 years together. Congratulations to them both.

Services for May are as follows: This Sunday May 6 is a joint Family Service for Mountfield and Netherfield at Netherfield; May 13 is a United Holy Communion for Brightling, Mountfield and Netherfield at Brightling; May 20 is a joint Holy Communion for Mountfield and Netherfield at the moment at Netherfield. Please remember, Mountfield church will be closed for building works over the next few weeks but could be completed around May 20 so watch this space for any change here. May 27 will be a joint Holy Communion for Mountfield and Netherfield at Netherfield. All services are at 10 am. and please check here each week or on notice boards at the churches for our services. Paul Smith Church Warden.
