Later in the month on 30th October, the White Hart is hosting a Music Festival with a number of bands performing through the afternoon and evening.

Most tastes will be catered for as the bands are blues, popular and rock music. Look out for the posters! The event is seeking donations towards the repair of the church tower.

Last week, sadly saw another funeral at our church, Mary Brabon. The service was a true celebration of her life and saw a large congregation paying their respects. Mary was a local lady who contributed much to the village and our church.

She, with Will her husband who died earlier this year, were always present at church and any events. They were known for their domain “on the door” in latter years.

The Netherfield Breakaway Club enjoyed a super outing to Scotney Castle on Thurday 16 September! The weather was perfect for our trip and Scotney proved to be a delight - in 2007 part of this magnificent Victorian country house was opened to visitors.

It was home to Christopher and Betty Hussey for over 60 years and, following Christopher’s death Betty lived alone at Scotney for a further 30 years until her 90s, spending much time in the refurbished kitchen enjoying the views and company of her pet cat, which is still in residence in the house!

Betty was an ardent cat lover which was obvious from many books on display and being an accomplished artist and we saw a wonderful display of her paintings on many subects too!

There were fine examples of furniture, ornaments, a library and other artefacts, paintings, etc. on display.

The celebrated gardens and grounds with fine walks through the parkland, woodland and quarry were just right for photo taking as was the fairytale 14th-century moated castle, unfortunately not open due to renovations.

We even saw punters on the lake where the workmen were dealing with the luxurious growth of shrubs surrounding it!

The Coach House tearoom served delicious lunches and afternoon teas which we were able to partake off sitting in the sunshine. There is always something to see at Scotney and we all felt it would be worth a return visit. For further information call 01892 893820.
