Wallands School: Thank you to everyone who recently made a contribution to the Poppy Appeal, as we raised £183.90 and the local district total was £20,278.65. Thank you to everyone who volunteered for the Wallands Christmas Fair; your time and enthusiasm made it an amazing event and it was great to see so many Wallands families there. Thank you to everyone and every business who made a donation to the raffle, tombola and second hand stalls, however big or small. The results of the Sportshall Primary Athletics competition, in which Wallands was one of 16 schools that participated last week, was a comfortable win, 48 points clear of the nearest rivals. The next stage on 27th March is against the other schools who won their area place. Well done team. A bright but cold afternoon found 20 Wallands children with Mrs Taylor, down at the Priory Fields running the annual Cross Country race. The first 15 boys and 15 girls over the finish line automatically get invited to participate in the next stage in January. Jack Eadie in Yr 6 finished 1st for the boys and 2 Yr 5 girls Flora Loske Page & Martha Weisskopf – Strange finished 2nd & 3rd respectively. However, an additional 4 children also finished in the top 15. These fantastic results meant that the girls team finished 1st and the boys team 3rd. Well done to all of the children who participated. After playing an additional 2 matches on Tuesday after school, the football league standings have Wallands in 3rd position; however, the joint 1st place is currently occupied by two schools that have both played 5 matches each. The season resumes in January. Well done to all of the boys who have participated in any of the matches.

A Tutt with a Kiss: My comment last week regarding the passion of Miss Fowler Tutt and the Kiss by Rodin and her Nevill input, sparked a reply from a past resident who referred to her objection to the war memorial female attributes and made a very valued comment about The Kiss statue. “If the Council had not handed it back, our council tax would probably be nil, due to the money the town would have made showing it to the world.”
