ANTI-SOCIAL HOURS: What do you do when there is a very noisy party going on outside until 5.30am in the morning? It’s a case of parents away, mice will play, but these mice were not young teenagers. They were young adults who should have more consideration for others. They were shouting, screaming at the tops of their voices all night with very choice language too, so it was impossible to sleep, and to add insult to injury they repeated it all again on Saturday. The only advantage on the second night was that it started raining about 1.30am Sunday morning so they went indoors, which made it slightly better. Having fun should not be at the expense of many other people, young and old, who had two sleepless nights. Would have been acceptable until midnight after which it becomes very inconsiderate and quite ignorant behaviour.

LANDPORT BOTTOM EXTRACTS: Old Racecourse bridleway (running from the top of the motor road towards Black Cap) the boundary fence has been moved by the landowner, thereby reducing its width. Whilst this is not currently a problem access could be difficult come winter, due to muddy conditions. The Bridleways Department confirmed the land was a paddock and therefore the owner’s responsibility. Various suggestions were made regarding more natural forms of seating on Landport Bottom Log seating etc would be considered. How can cyclists be persuaded to use their bells? Pond: the pond will be cleaned by volunteers on Tuesday October 11 and those wishing to get involved should meet there at 10am. There is a great display of wild carrot this year, also round-headed rampion (known as the Pride of Sussex) and wild thyme are both present. It has been a bad year for butterflies but there has been a possible sighting of a Green Hairstreak. A complaint instigated by Ruth O’Keeffe regarding horse riders using the twitten in Highdown Road had a reply stating that the previous type of barrier/rail along the twitten (which was removed some time ago), would not meet current standards and that the re-location of new pedestrian guard rails might be implemented. A horse rider on being challenged using the twitten replied, ‘Where is the sign?’ LDC Wild competition, posters advertising this have been displayed around Landport Bottom inviting people, especially families and young children to email or tweet photos of particular wildlife sightings eg adders. There will be three night-time events across Landport Bottom for Light up Lewes; the provisional date is October 11 and will be wildlife focussed. The following activities are planned across the three locations: Star gazing, led by the Dark Sky Committee; the promotion of glow worms by Sussex University; a light show; a bat survey; and a moth survey.

CHRIST CHURCH: Today, Friday, is our Team Jesus Messy Church from 10.30am to 1pm. Craft, celebration and lunch for all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Worship on Sunday at 10.30am will be led by Rev Janet Morley and Sunday Club for children will meet during the service.
