Nevill

NEVILL SPORTS HISTORY: I have made one or two enquiries and it seems the sports was held on Sheepfair and moved down to the Nevill green about 1955/56. I think the field sports were held in Sheepfair and the running races on the green. Of course there was the cross country over the downs. I never took part as I was built for speed not endurance, so never knew the actual course. No doubt one of my avid readers will get in touch with some information on this. In 1972 St Marys Supporters Club was opened and chaired by Maurice Breeze up to 1978 which is no mean achievement as he was involved in the sports from 1948. Deep respect to the man (as the saying of the 2000's goes). In 1978 the chairmanship was taken over by Jacqueline Bodle with Pam Reid and Janet Dawes. Colin Reynolds took over clerk of the course, a role which he still does today.

ST ANNE’S CHURCH: The annual parishioners meeting to elect two church wardens and the Annual Parochial Church meeting will be held on Sunday April 24 at 11.15am in the church. The Lunchtime recitals start April 28 with the Ensemble Reza, followed on Thursday May 26 by the Brighton Chamber Ensemble. All recitals begin at 1pm and last 40 minutes. Refreshments will be available before and after the performance. There will be a retiring collection.

CHRIST CHURCH: We had a busy morning last Friday when over 73 people attended our Messy Church. The theme was the two tiny coins and there were lots of activities based around this. Participants made money boxes, played shove halfpenny and made coins covered with gold foil. After a celebration in the church, a meal of hot dogs and fruit was served. Today our Tots group meets from 9.30 am after the Easter break and we look forward to welcoming everyone back. Hopefully now as we move towards summer we will be able to offer some outside play for the children. Worship on Sunday will be led by David Coleman at 10.30am.
