Nevill

NEVILL RESIDENTS: The meeting will be held on Monday at St Mary's Church Hall, Highdown Rd at 8pm. Penny Ollosson will explain how Good Neighbours Schemes, which is part of Action in Rural Sussex and run by local people for local people, can make a big difference to people's lives, eg, for those who are housebound, for carers and anyone in need of help. There will be an update on recent events concerning St Mary's Social Centre and the Trustees' determination to secure its future long¬ term. Also, how could the safety of pedestrians be improved on crossing the road at the junction of Nevill Road, Christy Road and Nevill Crescent? Please come to the meeting if local matters are important to you.

A MYSTERY: As some of you may have noticed, a bus stop has been erected in Middle Way opposite the other one. I spoke to a couple of bus drivers who had no idea why, so I have contacted the bus company. I will contain my thoughts until I know if it is a mistake or not. If it isn’t a mistake, how come it is the best kept secret since sliced bread. Latest news hot off the press is that it is indeed a bureaucratic error. Even worse, it should have replaced the old one. More public money wasted.

WALLANDS SCHOOL: Sport Relief: Thomas, Eliot, Bruce and Harvey made £59 for the charity from their bake sale, well done boys. There is a Jumble Sale tomorrow, Saturday, 2pm to 4pm. On Tuesday our chess team competed in the second round of the Sussex Schools Primary Cup. Having previously won; we were playing 3 other schools from other areas who had also won. The children were a delight and the organizers commented on the children’s behavior and sportsmanship. I’m really pleased to tell you Wallands won 11/12 games, putting them through to the finals. Well done to Jonathan, Solomon, Jacob W and Ben M. Lewes Bridgeview Judo Club held a grading at the weekend and several Wallands pupils took part. Milo Lockwood gained second, Daniel Salter gained third, Mia Goode gained second. Anyone interested in a free taster session should contact Lisa Kearley on 07944851648 or email [email protected]

CHRIST CHURCH: Our church announcements last week started with the word Vitejte. This is welcome in the Czech language. On Sunday our Minister, John, baptized Martina from the Czech Republic who was visiting Lewes for the baptism of Eliash. Today, Friday, is the last Tots meeting before the Easter Holidays and we hope that a good number of children will be present today as there will be an Easter surprise for those attending. Worship on Sunday (Palm Sunday) will be led by Alan Crook at 10.30am and Rev John Gordon will be leading worship and Holy Communion at 6.30pm.
