LIFE'S DIFFICULTIES: I find it amazing that it the last couple of months, it is considered that the county town of Sussex, could be without a General Post Office and/or a Railway Station ticket office. The Post Office wants to downgrade to the back of a shop somewhere in the town, so we can queue even longer then we do now, and Southern Rail, or whoever runs our network, think it's a good idea to close our ticket office, so we either have to buy at machines or on a computer, always assuming you have one. This is the problem with today's society in general isn't it? The powers that be making these decisions on our behalf, make the assumptions that we are all computer literate and have computers. So there will be no-one to ask questions of as to the best way to our journey's end or the cheapest way to get there. Is this the future? You can't beat face to face service, with or without a smile, from someone with knowledge of the product you want to buy. I am sure there will eventually come a time when we have no need to communicate verbally with each other at all. It will all be robotic. It does seem as if every time someone comes up with these supposedly cost cutting suggestions, life seems to get more and more difficult. We certainly feel as if all our choices in life are gradually being eroded. Just who are all these dictators?

WALLANDS SCHOOL: A huge thank you to all of the amazing performers who made last Friday night’s Wassail so special; you were wonderful. I am delighted to say, once we have paid for the hire of the lights, sound equipment and sound engineer, the sale of tickets and t-shirts will have raised over £700 to spend on the school stage refurbishment. Thank you to all involved.

CHRIST CHURCH: Today, Friday, is our last Tots meeting before the half term break. The first half of the term seems to have flown by. Next Friday from 10.30am we have our Messy Church finishing with lunch at 1pm. This is open to all ages but children must be accompanied by an adult. There is no charge for admission and there will be craft activities, celebration and lunch all around the theme of The Last Supper. Over 100 people came to our Messy Church at Christmas and we hope to have a similar number next week. Worship on Sunday will include Holy Communion and will be led by our Minister, Rev John Gordon. Sunday Club for children will be running during the service. After the service we will be having a congregational meeting and the morning will finish with a lunch. We are now planning our Children’s Summer Holiday Club. This will be running from July 27 to 29 so if you have children in Reception up to Year 6 and would like them to attend please book the dates in your diary now.

ST MARY’S GARDENING CLUB: On Monday March 7 we will have the pleasure of hearing Michael Blencowe speak on The Nature Reserves of the Sussex Wildlife Trust. He is always an interesting and entertaining speaker. The meeting starts at 7.45pm in the Main Hall of the St Mary’s Social Centre and as always, all are welcome.
