LEWES REMEMBERS: The well-known faces of Lewes who have passed away during the Christmas holidays; Jack Greenaway of St Marys Pantomime, who used to produce and play the Dame, Ivor Wycherley who was instrumental in setting us up in our first flat on our return from honeymoon, Maud Welfare who used to live on the Neville and a great stalwart of bonfire and Ray Oliver, always a cheerful face around town with a ready quip, RIP.

NEVILL RESIDENTS’ MEETING: Will be held on Monday at St Mary’s Church Hall, Highdown Rd at 8pm. Proposals to build houses above Houndean Rise and close to Nevill, putting Our Green Spaces At Risk, will be on the agenda. Gaynor Hartnell will report on the success of the Community Orchard Project’s planting programme in 2015. Concerns have been raised about the safety of pedestrians crossing Nevill Road at Nevill Green which is a blind spot for northbound drivers. Could improvements to the pavements and better road signs make it safer? Please come along, we need your input.

CHRIST CHURCH: It was good to see 19 of our Tots back with us last Friday. We still have room for a few more so if you are a carer with a pre-school child you are welcome to join us from 9.30am for a couple of hours. During the morning the children can play with our toys, we then have refreshments and finish with a story and singing. The charge per family is only £1. Worship on Sunday at 10.30am will be led by Rev Martin Miller and Sunday Club for children will run during the service. At 6.30pm we are hosting the Churches Together in the Lewes Area United Service for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.

RUTH O’KEEFFE: Congratulations Ruth on your well deserved MBE for all the hard work you carry out as our councillor.

LEWES NEVILLE WI: The next meeting is on Wednesday at 7.30pm at St Mary’s Church Hall, Highdown Road. Our speaker for the evening will be Mrs Ros Black whose talk is entitled Scandal, Salvation and Suffrage, women of the temperance movement, very intriguing. Subscriptions for the year are due at this meeting (£37.50 for full members and £18 for dual members, cheques to be made out to Lewes Neville WI). New members are welcome and can attend one meeting before deciding whether to join. The WI is a great place to make friends and socialise, learn interesting things and be involved in crafty activities. Give it a try.
