HAPPY NEW YEAR: To all my contributors and to the odd one or two of you who like to read the odd comment that I make from time to time. This year will find us all in trouble with the withdrawal of us Brits leaving the EU. I will make no further comment. It would also appear that the drones over Gatwick were an illusion, as the powers that be have been unable to find people responsible. Another cover up I feel.

RIVERSIDE CLUB: We look forward to seeing you all next Friday for the first speaker of 2019, commencing promptly at 2pm. Don’t forget we will be there a little earlier every Friday during January, for you to renew your membership. Fees have gone up for the first time in years and are now £15 per head for the year, with weekly fees remaining at £2 per head which includes a cup of tea/coffee and biscuit.

LEWES NEVILLE WI: The planned meeting for January 16 has had to be changed due to the hall being closed for drainage works, and we will now meet on Wednesday January 23 at the usual time of 7.30pm and with the same speaker (Hook and Son, organic dairy). I will be contacting all our members about the change.

CHRIST CHURCH: Sunday is Epiphany, when we celebrate the revelation of the baby Jesus to the world. At 10.30am on Sunday our morning service will be led by David Coleman. There is also an evening service that day at St Anne’s in Western Road, led by Canon Rev Richard Moatt. There is a Church Council meeting on Wednesday. Christ Church Tots are back on Friday January 11. Looking ahead, the Think Tank has another meeting on Wednesday January 16 at 7.30pm when Debby Matthews will talk on Thomas Mantell and the early Lewes non-conformists. ( Thomas was the father of Gideon Mantell, discoverer of dinosaurs in the Sussex Weald). Questions and discussion will follow.
