Nevill

Reflections: Time to reflect on what's happened this year. There doesn't appear to be any changes on the estates, except parking gets worse and the poor bus drivers need the patience of a saint. We are still awaiting the development of the North Quarter and the finalising of the new Styles housing development. The GP surgeries are preparing for the future 'Hub' within the North Quarter but I'm beginning to think it might not be in my time! The Depot is a fantastic bonus to the town and is well attended both as a cinema and a social venue. I think the approach to the leaving of the E.U. has changed but I will not use the word that has dominated the headlines for months and will no doubt continue to do so for many more yet. Just beware if you are booking a'do it yourself' and not a package holiday within the EU after March, there might be new regulations such as legal paperwork in addition to your passport to be aware of. Local news is good news generally, so keep me informed of any Nevill News and we wish all our readers and contributors a very Happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year.

Nevill WI: The December meeting of Lewes Neville WI was our Christmas party. This was an enjoyable occasion where we feasted on dishes bought by members on the theme of The Twelve Days of Christmas. As ever, our members rose to the challenge and we had some very creative interpretations. After our meal we were treated to a humorous poem by John Julius Norwich on the absurdity of The Twelve Days of Christmas read by Stella Stephens. This was followed by the very popular “game” - a sort of competitive raffle and some quizzes. We finished with a proper raffle. All good fun. There will be another year of fun and friendship starting with the meeting on Wednesday 16th January 2019 at St Mary’s Hall on Highdown Road at 7.30pm. We shall be hearing about Hook & Son’s organic dairy in Hailsham. Subscriptions for the year will be due. Potential new members are welcome to come and try our WI.
