New benches at popular pool

THINGS are looking up at the Pells Pool.

There has been a good start to the summer season and two new benches have been put in, courtesy of a legacy from a Pells Pool supporter.

Phil Ransley, pool manager, told the Express: 'We've put them at the shallow end so parents can sit and watch their children rather than having to sit on the floor.

'A lady called Sue Richards, who was involved in the campaign to save the pool, passed away about 18 months ago and left some money for the pool.

'The money was used to pay for two trees, a magnolia and a hornbeam, to be planted in the grass near the pool.

'But there was some money left and it's been used to pay for the benches.'

Takings at the pool were up compared to last year, with good season ticket sales and a large number of visitors spurred on by good weather.

Phil said: 'We're having a better season so far, lots of younger people have bought season tickets and we are definitely up on last year.'

The popular outdoor pool is owned by Lewes Town Council and managed by a community association.

The town council spends 10,000 per year on the pool.

The next fundraising event at the pool is the Pells Barn Dance which takes place on July 11 at 7.30pm. Tickets from the pool kiosk.
