New campaign group formed

A NEW campaign group has been created in the wake of Rother's decision to approve the Little Common supermarket plan.

The Little Common and Cooden Sea Community Group was set up as a result of "total frustration and anger" felt by residents present at the full council meeting where the application on the Cooden Sea Road site was passed.

According to their press release the group are now investigating the application for judicial review against the council for what they believe to be their dismissive handling of the matter.

The group said: "Every member of the council had been sent solid and substantiated refusal reasons, with specific policy quoted, in order that they could refuse the planning application.

"The Liberal Democrats raised an amendment to defer and this was also lost.

"Since no retail impact assessment or traffic impact assessment was submitted for this application these facts were not presented and therefore could not be taken into account by members.

"The community was not involved by PPS6 (the demonstration of a retail need) and no expert advice sought.

"The group are therefore investigating the case for judicial review against the council for their dismissive handling of the application."

"If you would like to support the campaign please contact Rachel Hills, on 01424 846399, who is the campaign co-ordinator."
