THE new Chair of Lewes District Council is Eileen Russell. Her appointment was approved at the Annual Council Meeting last week.
Cllr Russell takes over from Cllr Carolyn Lambert and will hold the position for the year.
The theme of her time in office will centre on supporting volunteers in the community. Cllr Russell said: “It’s an honour and I am delighted to accept on behalf of the people of Lewes District.
“I look forward to working with the many community groups in the district and to being involved and highlighting the work that they do.”
Mrs Russell has served as a councillor with Lewes District, representing Peacehaven, since 2003 and has lived in the area for the last 47 years.
She was the Chair of Sussex Arthritis Self Help (Sash) for 17 years and Chair of Peacehaven Horticultural Society for 11 years.
Current interests include the arts. Cllr Russell is a keen amateur painter and belongs to a local art group. She is a member of the Senior Citizens Forum and a Trustee for Kempton House Age UK.
The Vice Chair for the next year will be Cllr Paul Gander.
