New charity shop for hospice opens up in town centre

Situated just past John Lewis, the new shop has a range of clothing for men and women, a children’s section, DVDs, bric a brac and books.

There really is something for everyone and the team look forward to welcoming local customers and helping them in their search for a bargain.

Teresa Harris, shop manager, said: “It’s really exciting to open the third St Catherine’s charity shop in Horsham. We’re really grateful for the support we get from people locally and hope people will take the time to pop in and browse for a bargain.

“It’s early days for us but we’ve got some really exciting, future plans.”

The opening of St Catherine’s new shop sees the hospice expanding their reach in the local area by adding to their two existing shops in Horsham’s East Street and also brings the total number of charity shops across their Sussex and Surrey catchment area to 15.

Last year, St Catherine’s cared for over 2,000 people with 465 referrals from patients in Horsham.

As Horsham’s local hospice provider, the charity provides tailored care services for terminally ill people and their family and friends in the comfort of their own homes in Horsham and the surrounding areas, at their Inpatient Unit in Crawley and through Day Hospice sessions, which help patients to live well through a range of wellbeing activities, such as art, music and creative writing.

Recognising that people are more than their illness, the hospice works hard to provide a sense of comfort and wellbeing to patients through both physical and emotional support, such as welfare advice, counselling and spiritual care.

Although St Catherine’s care services are all free of charge, the hospice receives less than third of their funding from the NHS so relies on the generosity and support of the community for the rest.

By shopping in St Catherine’s new Bishopric shop, you’ll be helping make sure the hospice can continue to be there for local residents when and where they need it most.
