New community plans given go ahead

A MEETING to approve controversial plans to build a huge housing development in Worthing descended into chaos when police were called to eject demonstrators.

Worthing Council gave outline planning permission for developers to build a new community including 875 new homes on countryside in west Durrington at the meeting on Friday night.

But the debate was halted as up to 20 environmental activists with banners invaded the stage where the development control committee were discussing the plans.
