New craft market for Midhurst

A new regular craft market has been set up by The Midhurst Hub, a non-profit organisation.

The aim is to give crafters and local businesses in the area a platform for selling their wares.

The hub was started by The Tall Dog, which offers small business support services, in 2013.

Vicki Harrison, managing director, explained: “Our main aim when we set up the Midhurst Hub was to give local crafters and businesses an opportunity in Midhurst to sell their wares and promote what they do in a shop on the high street, without costing large amounts, as often the items that they sell and make are of minimal cost.

“Having a stall at a show can often be expensive and they have to sell a lot to make it viable, so we wanted to give those people an opportunity to showcase and sell their items all year round at a minimal cost of only £2.50 per week, where no commission was taken or shop duties required.

“We created The Midhurst Hub – a place to shop to buy and a shop to discover local businesses and trades – as we wanted to provide this opportunity to help businesses grow, expand and develop before taking the leap to take on their own premises.”

The hub continues to go from strength to strength, operating not only as a shop but now a booking office for local events, the Market Square and Town Hall, and a place where people can promote job vacancies. It also offers community services like photocopying, emailing and much more.

Vicki added: “We are always looking for new opportunities to bring our businesses together and help them showcase their wares, so we have worked with The Midhurst Town Trust to be able to put on an indoor craft market.”

The market will initially run every other month, with a view to becoming more regular and possibly tying in with an outdoor market later down the line.

It launches on Thursday, August 4, in the Old Town Hall, Market Square, from 10am to 2pm.
