New cross from old bell frame

Oak recovered from the old bell frame of Felpham's parish church forms part of a new Calvary cross.

The sculpture was installed in the churchyard of St Mary's Church ready for a blessing by the rector, Father Timothy Peskett, on Easter Sunday.

Members of the congregation attended the ceremony along with the cross's sculptor, Aldwick man Paul Bignell, and Bognor Regis and Littlehampton MP Nick Gibb.

The church's old Calvary cross had deteriorated over the years. Mr Bignall was brought in to carve the figure of Christ for the new one. He used oak from the bell frame, dating back to 1884, which was replaced in the church tower some years ago.
