New date for health meeting

BEXHILL MP Gregory Barker has announced that his public meeting at the De La Warr Pavilion to protest at local health cuts, will now take place on Friday, April 27.

The MP met with East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust chief executive Kim Hodgson and chairman John Lewis plus Hastings and Rother PCT chairman Nick Yeo last Friday to hear that the public consultation on the possible cuts to local hospital services, will now take place in early Spring.

Speaking after the meeting at Eastbourne District General Hospital, he said: "I am very keen to give a voice to people in Bexhill and the rest of the constituency, who stand to be hugely effected by any cuts.

"However I want our meeting to be really effective and to do that, we need to see the options that the PCT will be consulting on.

"I have therefore decided to put back the public meeting at the De La war from February 1 to April 27 when all the details should be known.

"The Friends of the Conquest in Hastings and the Eastbourne Friends have done a very good job in building a broad community coalition against the proposed cuts and I very much help that we can build the same solid cross-party consensus in Bexhill.

"These latest cuts begin and end with the financial crisis in the NHS and until we get a fairer share of funding for our area, we cannot have a sensible discussion about the future of local healthcare."
