New driving force needed for Littlehampton motor event

MOTORMANIA will be casting its infectious spell over Littlehampton seafront again next year, after the opening event raised £5,000 for forces’ charity Help for Heroes.

But co-organiser Dot Fellows is looking for new blood to help stage the celebration of classic American and British cars after Adrian Binstead, who worked with her on the first Motormania earlier this month, announced he was standing down for personal reasons.

Dot, of Dean Close, Wick, said: “It’s a great loss not having Adrian, as he put so much effort into the show. I’m pressing on, but I can’t do it on my own – it’s such a big event.

“I’m hoping we can form a committee and we are asking for volunteers to join in. We have already had two people come forward but we need more.

“There’s a lot of interest in next year. The majority of people want to come back again and that is very pleasing.”

Dot and Adrian started planning the first Motormania more than a year ago. Both their families have links with the armed forces – Adrian’s brother Rob recently left the Army, after 22 years’ service, while Dot’s son Arran, 29, is with the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment, currently taking a communications course in this country.

She was keen to support Help for Heroes after seeing a change in Arran after his last tour in Iraq. “He wouldn’t talk to me about the things that happened out there. I could see it had really affected him, and there are thousands more who have been affected, too.

“Help for Heroes are bringing help into the community, trying to build convalescent homes and recuperation centres all around the country to help not just the wounded but their families, too.”
