New event this weekend gives chance to Drive Through Time

ALL roads will lead to West Park in Aldwick this weekend.

The first Drive Through Time motor gala will take place there on Saturday and Sunday (May 26 and 27).

Some 200 vehicles are expected to be put on display during the two days by their proud owners.

The classic, veteran vintage and modern classic cars will be joined by a selection of motorbikes to add a further chapter of motoring history for visitors to enjoy. The event has been organised by Bognor Regis Town Council with help from the town’s motor club.

Sue Holmes, the council’s head of street scene and leisure, said: “Drive Through Time builds on the popularity of the car show section of the former Sands of Time seafront event and it will be bigger.

“There will be all sorts of cars taking part. Different cars will be on show during the weekend. Some will be there on both days and others on just one day.

People will have the chance to come along and have a good look at them and meet their owners.

“There will also be craft stalls for them to look around as well along with entertainment to enjoy.”

Car owners will be driving from North London, Dorking, Surbiton and Peacehaven among other places to take part. A good selection of Bognor area owners is also expected to attend.

Trophies will be awarded to the best and most popular entries.

Drive Through Time will be open from 11am-5pm on both days. It revives the tradition of a motor gala.

This took place annually from 1976 to 1999 and raised about £100,000 for charity until its organisers at the town’s Rotary Club decided to end it.

Entertainment for visitors to the new event will come from George’s Regis Jazz Band on the first day and the Bognor Regis Concert Band and Littlehampton Steel Band on the second.

Refreshments will be available from the West Park Cafe as well as the visiting Simply Delicious stall.
