New fund-raising venture at St Mary's

A NEW fund-raising venture was launched at St Mary's School and College this morning.

Supporters have long been familiar with the special needs school's popular fairs.

Now they have an additional feature - table sales.

Like all new ventures, it will take a while to build up a customer-base.

At 6 a table, there was no shortage of tables, or of bargains on Saturday morning. The buying public were in rather shorter supply.

For seekers after good quality used toys, books, videos, CDs or bric-a-brac - even shoes, video players or vacuum cleaners, there was ano shortage of choice.

The delicious aroma of freshly-cooked bacon baps wafted from the kitchen and there was an array of scones and other mouth-watering temptations for sale, plus a raffle.

The school's office manager, Sue Munn, said: "This is the first table sale we have ever done. We have 22 tables, which is good. We had hoped to see more people here but it is early days.

"We have another table sale in a month's time.

"We hope to make them a regular feature. Some of the stall-holders are really keen for us to do it again.

"The fairs are so popular. This is a completely new development."
