New generation of lifesavers

LESSONS in lifesaving were learned by hundreds of Bognor Regis pupils.

All 200 students aged 13-14 at The Regis School spent a day being taught first-aid basics.

They learnt about resuscitation; injuries to bones, muscles and joints; wounds, bleeding and burns; diabetes and seizures; heart attacks and angina; and asthma and choking.

One of those involved, Kirsty Green, said she enjoyed the day and learnt what to do in emergency. Her mum was proud her daughter had received a first-aid certificate and now knew how to save a life.

The day was arranged by the school’s health manager, Jacquie Walker. The positive response to the event could see her replicate it next year. Her work ensured the Westloats Lane school was ahead of a campaign by the British Heart Foundation to create a new generation of lifesavers.

The sessions were led by school PE staff and volunteer St John Ambulance trainers.
