New group aimsto improve Rye

The Campaign for Action in Rye (CAR) is a non-political group which has sprung up following the demise of the Campaign for a Democratic Rye (CDR).

A series of meetings are taking place throughout March to set out the aims of a constitution and form a committee.

A leaflet will be distributed at next Wednesday’s (March 4) Annual Town Meeting in Rye.

Giving his reaction to the new group, Rye councillor, and long-serving CDR member Granville Bantick said: “I am optimistic that the campaign that CDR set out ten years ago will remain a campaign but with the emphasis being on making Rye a better place for its residents and visitors.

“Action will certainly be needed, and it is agreed CAR will lend support to any of the organisations in Rye if they consent.”

Former CDR chairman Alan Bolden said: “Both councillor Bantick and I have retired and stepped back now. It is time for people with new ideas and enthusiasm to help make the town better.

“The important thing now is that it moves forward and people get involved in the organisational side of things and turn ideas into action.”

Cllr Bantick says the steering group of the Rye Town Plan is keen to work with the new group.

If people want to get involved with the new group, meetings are taking place at the Rye Club, Market Road on March 11 and March 18 at 7pm.
