New head at the helm of Cross-in-Hand CEP

Sarah Massheder, head teacher of Cross-in-Hand Primary School, has now had just over a term to settle into her new role.

And it’s one she relishes. She told the Express: “I am delighted that we have such a supportive and talented team of staff here. The parents and children are lovely too. I feel lucky to be here. It’s an inspirational place.”

Mrs Massheder took over the headship from acting head teacher, Andrew Best in September, 2015. She arrived at Cross-in-Hand after a three-year spell heading up the teaching team at All Saints Church of England Primary School near Bexhill.

Before that she was deputy head at Wadhurst Church of England Primary. But her teaching career in rural East Sussex followed 14 years as a teacher in Bromley, South London, where she was appointed assistant head teacher in January 2012.

She commented: “I really enjoy working within Church of England primary schools. There are not so many in London and to begin with, it was difficult to try and explain the difference. But what I notice, particularly here, is that there is an emphasis on Christian values throughout the school which is entirely a good thing and permeates everything we do. We focus on behaviour as well as teaching - for example we try to inspire our children with love and tolerance....and it works. We are a happy school.” Mrs Massheder lives in Etchingham. She is married and although she does not have children of her own, she comes from ‘a huge family with lots of nephews and nieces.”
